Nikkei gains 1.2 pct as US data brightens outlook

TOKYO, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average rose 1.2 percent on Tuesday after global shares resumed their rally on stronger manufacturing data the day before, while oil rose as the outlook for growth increased optimism about demand.
